Grace Anna Ailes

Grace Anna Ailes, age 106, of York Township, Red Lion, died at 5:30 AM Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Rest Haven of York. She was a devoted wife of the late Edwin W. Ailes whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Born September 16, 1917, in Peach Bottom Township, she was a daughter of the late Bunyan H. and Mary J. (Fulton) Wise. She attended Delta High School and graduated in 1935. Upon her passing she was the last member of that graduating class. She then worked her way through Thompson’s Business School and graduated, going on to work at Edison Light and Power for 15 years, and York Recreation Commission for 10 years. Much of her life was dedicated to raising her two daughters. She was the last living Charter Member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, in York, and had also been a member of the JCC and the Valley Forge Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Ailes is survived by two daughters, Mary Jennette Dunlap, and her husband William, of York, and Dr. Polly M. Rost, of York; two granddaughters, Jennifer Rebecca Dunlap, and her husband Michael Williams, and Erin Michelle Sipple, and her husband Clayton; and one great grandson, Daniel Sipple as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, James C. Braselman; three brothers, John, Samuel, and Ralph Wise; and two sisters, Eleanor Matson and Bertha Evans.

A visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York. Private burial will be in Slateville Cemetery, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Grace loved her numerous pets that she cared for over the span of her life and would be thrilled to have monetary donations in lieu of flowers, made to York County SPCA, 3159 North Susquehanna Trail, York PA 17406.
