Dorothy V. Blevins (Dottie), age 102, of Stewartstown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 3, 2024. She was the wife of the late R. Eugene Blevins.

Dorothy was born in York, PA, to Frank and Bessie (Wood) Valentine. A graduate of Red Lion H.S. (1938) and Temple University (1942), she became a teacher at Stewartstown H.S. at age 20 and continued teaching in the Southeastern District for many years. Dottie also served as office and farm market manager at Blevins Fruit Farm until 1990 while also working as a real estate agent.

In addition to her business, career, and family commitments, she served her community as a member of the Southeastern School Board and the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Stewartstown. Her dedication to the spread of literacy led to her years serving the Mason Dixon Public Library as a volunteer. There she was Director of the Board and served passionately as chairman of the New Building Committee. She also volunteered as a Friendly Visitor for the York County Agency on Aging until her nineties and served on the Board of the Stewartstown Senior Center.

Dorothy was grateful for her long and beautiful life as is her family for having her for so long. She cherished her family and was a kind and devoted friend with a great sense of humor. Her travels around the world fueled her profound compassion for those less fortunate. By example, she instilled the importance of service. She supported all efforts to promote equality and relieve suffering.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Kent Blevins and his wife, Nancy, and her daughter, Joan Blevins; two grandchildren, Jason Blevins and his wife, Danielle and Natalie (Blevins) Oswald and her husband, Peter; three great grandchildren, Lila Blevins, Bryce Blevins, and Penelope Oswald.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the Stewartstown United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 18 at noon. Luncheon and visitation with the family will follow in Heritage Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mason Dixon Public Library Foundation, 250 Bailey Dr., Stewartstown, PA or to the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S Main St., Stewartstown, PA. Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main Street, Stewartstown, PA 17363 is assisting the family with the arrangements. HartensteinCares.com
