Four charged with robbery in relation to York City homicide; 2 still at large

Four men are charged with robbery in connection with a recent York City homicide, but the suspected killer and his primary accomplice remain at large, court documents state.

The homicide is still being actively investigated, York City Police Lt. Daniel Lentz confirmed.

The charges are in relation to the fatal shooting of Whispering Wind Bear Spirit, 41, who was previously named Jennifer Jean Makos.

Her most recent listed address was at LifePath Christian Ministries in the 300 block of West Market Street, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

Spirit had been staying at the home of a friend in the 300 block of Smyser Street, which is where the robbery happened and where Spirit was fatally shot, officials said.

"She sounds like she was an amazing person because she was obviously loved by a lot of people," York County Coroner Pam Gay said.

During the coroner's office investigation into Spirit's death, Gay said she and her staff learned she had friends all over the country.

Charged with the felonies of robbery, burglary and conspiracy to commit both offenses are Oscar David Cook, 19, of Spring Garden Township; Michael Page Stewart, 22, of Harrisburg; Jayden Tyler Landis, 18, of the Manchester area; and Phillip Cornelius Sullivan, 18, of York Haven.

Cook is in York County Prison on $750,000 bail. Stewart and Landis remain free after posting 10% of their respective bail amounts, $5,000 and $15,000. Sullivan is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, meaning he didn't have to post any money but could forfeit that amount if he misses court proceedings.

Spirit was shot in the stomach inside the Smyser Street home of her friend, Oscar Fink, about 11:30 p.m. May 3, York City Police have said. She was rushed to York Hospital, where she died during surgery, according to police.

Shot over marijuana: The Smyser Street home was targeted because the group wanted to rob Fink of a pound of marijuana that they believed he'd stolen from Known Suspect 1, according to charging documents.

Landis, Stewart and Sullivan told investigators that Cook helped orchestrate the robbery, documents allege.

The four men drove to Fink's home "to assist in the plan to rob Fink" because they knew Fink and had previously bought marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms at the home, according to charging documents. They waited for Known Suspects 1 and 2 to arrive, which happened at 11:18 p.m., police said.

Known Suspect 2 had a gun and both men pushed their way inside the home, where Known Suspect 1 assaulted Fink as his accomplice held others in the home at bay with his gun, charging documents state.

Tried to defend friend: But Spirit tried to defend Fink and to get the attackers out of the home, according to police.

That's when one of the two unnamed men shot her in the torso, according to charging documents.

Spirit was hearing disabled and wore hearing aids, according to Gay. It's unclear if she could hear what the robbers were saying.

Stewart and Landis were in the house when Spirit was shot and ran back to Sullivan's car, documents state. The trio, along with Cook, took off in the car, police said.

The two unnamed attackers fled the home on foot, police said.
