More than 200 layoffs coming when Manchester Twp. distribution center closes

A distribution center in Manchester Township will soon cease operations and move its facility to Tennessee, which will result in more than 200 employees losing their jobs, according to state records.

DRiV Inc., a division of the automotive company Tenneco, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act on Nov. 10, according to the state Department of Labor & Industry's website.

The permanent closure, affecting its warehouse located at 20 Leo Lane, will lay off approximately 233 people, according to WARN records.

The closure will occur on Feb. 28, said company spokesperson Bill Dawson. 

The company announced in November the decision to close its York location, said Dawson.

"This decision is due to the current business environment in combination with the need to move to a more centralized business distribution model," Dawson said via email. 

DriV Inc. headquartered in Illinois, specializes in the manufacturing of vehicle parts, according to its website.

Dawson said the decision to close the York County facility was based on "economic realities."

Tenneco is one of the world's leading designers, manufacturers and marketers of automotive products for original equipment and aftermarket customers, according to its website. 

Tenneco stock jumped 27.9% at the end of November, outperforming the S&P 500, according to NASDAQ analysts.

Its stocks were trading at $10.91 per share on the New York Stock Exchange as of Wednesday's closing bell.
